I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it. – Rosalia de Castro
Nepal – the country of the highest peaks in the world. This country helped me understand my true desire for travel.
After a long drive and amazing scenery, we arrived in Pokhara. The city is known for its beautiful view of the Himalayas and exciting paragliding. On our first day, we walked around the town. I found a shop with a bunch of flag patches. I was able to find every country I had visited and decided that I was going to start a collection on my backpack.
As we continued exploring the city, I was able to see interesting entertainment for the kids. There was a manual Ferris wheel that was pushed by teenagers. There were people riding boats in the lake, and in the distance you could see some of the mountains. We had dinner out in the city and then went back for an early wakeup to see the sunrise on the Himalayas.
In the morning, we woke up very early to set off to the viewpoint of the Himalayas. We got a ride to a rooftop café at the top of one of Pokhara mountains. I had no idea what I was in for. I had never seen mountains like this before. As I watched the Himalayas reveal themselves, it almost looked as if they were coming out of the galaxy. They were so high I was frozen in aw. This amazing view was truly indescribable.
We continued our day and had plans for paragliding in the afternoon. I was very excited but a little bit nervous because of my fear of heights. I didn’t think I’d be afraid of paragliding, but I had a feeling I would be a little bit scared of the fact that I had to run off of the cliff. We drove up the mountain in a taxi in circles until we finally reach the top. After getting paired with a paraglider that was comparable in height and weight, we got all geared up and strapped in. When it was time for us to go, I ran with all my might. The feeling of being in the air so high, the Himalayas behind us, and the beautiful fields in front of us was unbelievable.
As we camped during our last night in Pokhara, we all went out to a bar to enjoy the night. On our way back, a couple of friends and I stopped off at a unique type of swing. The swing was made out of three massive bamboo sticks, and along the top hung rope that came down to form the swing. One of my tallest friends helped me get a head start and pushed me into the air. I was able to get much higher than I ever have on a swing. Just like with the mountains, I felt like I was in the galaxy. The beauty in all of this little town took my breath away, and I felt it completely on my last night there.
