One of my favorite memories of France was traveling to the beautiful castle island of Mont Saint-Michel, about 3 hours outside of Paris. The little island used to be …
During my last trip to France, I planned a quick journey to go explore this island that I had heard so much about.
As we drove through the back streets of rural France, we came to the town La Guintre, located on the outskirts of Mont Saint-Michel. We came up to an opening between the small farm houses, which gave way to stunning views of Mont Saint-Michel. This unassuming but magnificent little village truly took my breath away.
We parked on the outside and walked across the bridge to the entrance of Mont Saint-Michel. As we entered it felt as though we were immediately taken back in time. Wandering down the streets with old bars and cafes sprinkled with some sweets shops and souvenir stores had a distinctly old-fashioned feel to it.
We decided to take on the hike up to the top the island to view the castle and work up an appetite for lunch. The castle was at the very top. We climbed up through some side streets to reach the top. When we got there we were able to explore around the whole castle. There are many open areas that provide fantastic views the stunning landscapes surrounding Mont Saint-Michel.
We walked down and enjoyed a delicious lunch on the second floor of a local restaurant Restaurant Le Chapeau Rouge.
A crepe and coffee were the perfect way to end an ideal afternoon at Mont Saint-Michel.
