Tell us a little bit about your journey? Why do you travel? What pushes you to go to the next location?
I started my journey almost two years ago. Quit my toxic job, which was killing my soul and no longer serving my purpose. Gave up my NYC apt and let go of everything I knew. The loss of my father who succumbed to cancer was the push I needed. After his passing I decided I would leave a year later to embark on this new journey, set my intentions and my goal. During that year I continued to work at the strip club, which did fund my trip, and joined the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Graduated as a Holistic Health Coach and decided to set out on My Healthy Footprints to eventually help others on their own healing journey.
I travel because it pushes me into facing fears of the unknown. For the most part I was traveling alone, which taught me a lot about myself. I love to experience and feel new cultures. Find beauty throughout our planet. I also love meeting new people. My push to go to the next location is my urge to engage in new experiences. Honestly, the only thing that sucks about traveling are the goodbyes of people you meet along the way. Keeping in mind that its never really goodbye, its I will see you again.
How long have you been traveling for?
I started my journey in February of 2016 so it’s been almost two years and I’m continuing to do so. #travelbugissues
How do you fund your travels?
Before I departed on my journey I sublet my NYC apt, worked my ass bartending at a strip club (the job killing my soul) and saved everything. It was the light at the end of my tunnel and that’s how I did so. During my travels, this past summer I found work as a hostess/chef at this company called the yacht week. Absolutely loved it and trying to make a career into it. Works out quite nicely since my boyfriend is a skipper. Other than that I’ve been just living off my savings that I had since I left NYC.
Do you have any budget tricks for people just starting to save for long-term travel?
This is going to sound funny, but for my travel funds I would use envelopes. Every week I made money I would donate a certain amount of funds to each one. I also stopped spending on things I really didn’t need. For example, Starbucks, make coffee at home instead. Always keeping in the back of my head my end goal. Make a game plan and set that deadline.
Do you work while you are on the road? If so what do you do?
Like I mentioned earlier the only work I’ve done since traveling the past two years was working for a company called the yacht week. My boyfriend and I were contracted each week with 8 – 10 guests working on a sailboat. He was the skipper and I was the hostess. I cooked! We got to work in Croatia and tour around all of the islands. It was fucking awesome!
What was your favorite travel location and why?
This is a bit of a difficult question since I’ve had so many amazing experiences, good and bad, in different parts of the world. I would have to have that my favorite travel location is South East Asia and Bali in particular. I love the people, culture, food, energy, organized chaos, and beauty of land surrounded by crystal clear waters. I love that Bali also has a little bit of everything, meaning yoga, epic party scene, surfing, healthy food, hiking, temples and so on.
What was your least favorite travel location and why?
I’ve definitely had my fair share of travel hiccups along the way. I would have to say that my least favorite travel experience would have to be the Philippines. I know strange since my favorite part of the world is South East Asia. It’s not because the country is not beautiful because it is! In my personal opinion, I just found the locals to not be that friendly or helping. My boyfriend also felt a similar vibe. Still had a great time camping on a deserted island, swimming with whale sharks and motorbiking around the islands.
What has been your greatest life lesson that you have learned while traveling?
Fuck my life! This is such a difficult question. So many life lessons learned, and I’m still learning. I would have to save love. Love for myself and then for others.
