Mindfulness is the act of being mindful and conscious of the things in your life and the things going on around you. We all lead very hectic lives and forget to check in with ourselves. Today I want you to take a step back outside of your body. I want you to do everything with intent. I want you to do everything with purpose. If it’s a waste of your breath, energy, or thought, don’t feed into it and don’t allow it to have any control or power in your life of which it doesn’t deserve.
With mindfulness, you can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment. Nhat Hanh
Today I want you to write down all the things you are grateful for. Just grab a scrap piece of paper and write down a list of everything that comes to mind. It could be small things like your morning cup of coffee, all the way up to big things such as people that hold the most meaning in your life. After you’ve made this list, I want you to hold it in your mind and think about it every day. As days go on, try to add new items to this list. Every day brings something new to be grateful for.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. -Melody Beattie
This one is probably the best of all to practice in your daily life. It includes awareness of your life, other peoples’ lives, and of everything that encompasses our collective experiences. Today I want you to literally stop and smell the roses. Even better, stop and take a deep breath and pay attention to your senses; what do you smell, are you near a bakery or a laundromat? Maybe you’re near something unpleasant like a gas station – still stop and smell. Now continue on through your day and noticed all the little things you would normally take for granted. Those little things, whether we realize it or not, shape our experience and impact our lives in meaningful ways. Bringing more awareness into our lives brings us more meaning and purpose.
The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness. -Lao Tzu
If you continue to use these three tools every day I promise you that your life and way of thinking will start to shift in a positive way.
